PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Happy New Year to you all!

 

It is hard to believe that 2023 is winding down and 2024 is upon us.

 

Your board is working hard to schedule relevant and valuable CPE events for you in 2024. Our first CPE event of 2024 will be on February 20, 2024, “Tips, Tricks and Hacks for Better Written Reports,” presented by Michael (Mike) Fabrizius.

 

Mike is the Editor of New Perspectives, the professional journal of the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors (AHIA.org). Previously, Mike had 30+ years of experience as the Chief Audit Executive for major healthcare systems in Texas (Memorial Hermann), Maryland (Bon Secours), California (Sharp HealthCare), and North Carolina (Atrium Health).

Mike has been active in his professional organizations in various volunteer positions, including Chair of the Board for both The Institute of Internal Auditors and the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors. Mike resides in Davidson, NC, where he enjoys golf, college basketball and participating in community activities.

CFO Patronis Announces Arrest of Lee County Contractor in $214,000 Fraud Scheme

 LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the arrest of independent contractor Ricky McGraw, owner of SFR Services (SFR), for his alleged involvement in intentionally inflating and overbilling a roof replacement claim to defraud Tower Hill Insurance Company (Tower Hill) out of more than $214,000. McGraw was booked into Lee County jail on charges of Insurance Fraud and Grand Theft, both first-degree felonies.

Lee County Man Pleads Guilty In Connection With $1.35 Million COVID Relief Fraud Scheme

Fort Myers, Florida – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that Evan Graves (40, Alva) has pleaded guilty to wire fraud in connection with a $1.35 million COVID relief fraud scheme. Graves faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set. As part of his guilty plea, Graves has agreed to forfeit approximately $1,355,600 and six properties in Fort Myers that he had purchased or funded using proceeds of his fraud.

Man Pleads Guilty to One of New York’s Biggest No-Fault Insurance Frauds Ever

A New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to orchestrating a $60-$70 million fraud targeting no-fault automobile insurance companies in New York.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams reported that Bradley Pierre of Closter, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery and conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He is scheduled to be sentenced in May.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A Philadelphia man, Austin Genay, 30, has been sentenced to 22 months in federal prison, by Chief U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves, for cyberstalking and wire fraud.
